Embarrassing Questions You Dare Not Ask About Getting a Massage

!±8± Embarrassing Questions You Dare Not Ask About Getting a Massage

Here are some embarrassing questions that first time spa clients always want to know but might be too shy to ask:

1) When I get a massage, should I take off my underwear?

There is no fixed rule. You should do what is comfortable for yourself. Some people prefer to keep their panties or briefs on while others prefer to be completely nude. Usually, if you are wearing thongs or briefs (for men), there should be no hindrance to your massage experience.

2) What should I do if I drool during the massage?

It is not uncommon for people to fall asleep during a relaxing massage. If there is drool on the pillow or the massage table, it is very common. Do not feel shy about asking for a tissue or a small towel.

3) Will I have to undress in the presence of the massage therapist?

You will be given privacy to undress. Before the massage therapist walks in, he or she will usually knock discreetly, hence, you do not need to rush or be anxious. Just tell them if you are not yet ready. Once you are ready, slip under the top sheet on the massage table.

4) Do I need to talk to the massage therapist during the massage?

There is no need for you to carry out a conversation during the massage if you do not feel like it. You are there for a massage treatment and not for a social occasion. If you feel the room is too cold, or there is pain, or you have questions; feel free to speak up.

5) What do I do if I get an erection during the massage?

Many men avoid getting a massage because they are worried that they will be embarrassed when they get an erection. Arousal is perfectly normal even in non-sexual, therapeutic massage. This is because the soothing sensations administered to any area of the body can potentially activate the parasympathetic nervous system and cause an erection. Your massage therapist (male or female) is well aware of this and will generally ignore it. Wearing a bikini brief could be one way to help provide more support if you are still concerned.

6) I feel the pressure is too light, but I don't want to insult the massage therapist. What should I do?

Remember that it is not true that massage therapy needs to "hurt" in order to be effective. Too much pressure can sometimes cause muscle seizure. You should speak freely with your massage therapist as different people have different tolerance for pain and your muscle make up is different.

7) I am embarrassed about certain part of my body and don't want the massage therapist to see me. What can I do?

Some people are embarrassed about certain parts of their body for different reasons. It could be that you are overweight, have excessive body hair, or have a mole or acne growth. Most importantly, your therapist understands and will be professional about it. But if you are still embarrassed, opt for Shitsu or Thai Massage, both of which can be done with your clothes on.

Abdominal Massage

!±8± Abdominal Massage

This form of massage is beneficial in constipation. It stimulates the peristalsis of the small intestines, tones up the muscles of the abdomen walls and mechanically eliminates the contents of both large and small intestines. Abdominal massage should not be done in general, femoral,
inguinal and umbilical hernia, inflammation of the uterus, bladder, ovaries and fallopian tubes, kidney stones, bladder or gall bladder, ulcers of the stomach and intestines, and pregnancy.

Abdominal massage should not be done after a heavy meal, but after two hours or so. The
bladder should be emptied before the massage. The patient is made to lie on his back with his
knees drawn up. This enable the abdomen wall to relax. The masseur should stand at the right
side of the patient and use his finger tips for friction round the umbilical region from right to left.

He should likewise alternatively knead the walls and roll with both hands, making deep and firm
pressure. He should knead with the hand and finger tips and keep clear of any wound or tender
places. He should later take up massaging of the larger intestines.

The manipulation of the large intestine should begin on the right side. Keep it going upwards and
across the transverse colon and move right down on the left side to the signoid flexure and
rectum. Circular kneading should be done with the help of the three middle fingers. At the same
time press into the contents of the abdomen, following the course of the larger colon with a
crawling motion. Keep kneading by means of a few circular movements in one spot with the help
of finger tips. Keep moving the fingers a little further along. Knead repeatedly. Use knuckles of
the hand to make deep pressure along the large colon, moving the hands along after each
pressure.

Once the kneading of the abdomen isover, follow up by tapotement with both hands cupped or
use the knuckles of the hand. Vibration may also be employed. The patient could also be asked
to do some gymnastic exercises for strengthening the walls of the abdomen. Since blood
pressure increases during abdominal manipulation, patients with hypertension should avoid
abdominal massage. Massage should also be avoided in cases where there has been recent
bleeding in the lungs, the stomach or the brain.

Foot Massage Techniques - How to Give a Foot Massage

!±8± Foot Massage Techniques - How to Give a Foot Massage

While it's true that most people don't know how to give a great massage, the same can not be said for giving a foot massage, it takes very little effort or knowledge on how to give a foot massage as most people just love having their feet touched and caressed, particularly after activity when they are sore or aching.  The only exception is if the person is either excessively ticklish, or if they are self conscious about their feet because they think they are 'ugly' or if they have a deformation like bunions.

So most people can easily give a great feeling foot massage and the good news is that with just a few tips and a willingness to have a go and practice (and I'm sure you will have no problem finding a willing guinea pig), you can easily transfer from a novice to an expert foot massager.

Ok, if you want to learn how to give some foot massage therapy lets start with some basics. Massaging the feet is commonly connected with the idea of reflexology, which is a therapy system that uses the application of pressure to the reflex points in the body (and very commonly the feet) to treat discomfort, aches and pains. A good foot massage can certainly incorporate ideas from reflexology theory however it can be quite different, and needs no specialised knowledge. In fact it can be much simpler and yet yield a far greater immediate outcome in that it can quickly allow the receiver to feel comforted, soothed, and like they're walking away with a brand new pair of feet.

A pair of strong hands is a great start. Then grab some towels and some massage oil. If it's a 'quickie' foot massage, sorbolene cream will do a great job, it's an exceptional emollient and cheap to buy too, but it does absorb quickly into the skin so if you're giving a longer massage for the feet stick with oil. Now have the receiver wash their feet, or you can do it for them if you are comfortable to do so and willing to pamper them beyond the call of duty.

Washing the feet will make the receiver feel more at ease and make you feel more comfortable while giving a foot massage. If you want make a habit out of it, you can get a foot massage spa or foot massage bath and let them soak in luxury before the session begins. It's also such a treat as the feet usually get so much less attention than the hands.

Ok, now for some foot massage techniques. I find that it's good to proceed in this order:

Start by oiling up the feet and giving a general all over rub with the palms of the hands Then a little foot manipulation, hold the heel firm with one hand and with the other, gently hold and twist the forefoot clockwise and counter-clockwise Manipulate the toes, each in turn, up and down, left and right, and follow by massaging and caressing deep in between the toes Massage in small circles on the sole of the feet with the thumbs followed by kneading using the fingers, heel of the palm, or knuckles Now this one's a bit tricky. Grab the foot like a hamburger, toes facing you, fingers on top, thumbs on bottom under the balls of the feet. Manipulate the joints at the balls of the feet by lifting each joint independently up and down. Massage the top of the foot using the palm and / or the finger tips.  The top of the foot is boney so be careful not to apply excessive direct pressure onto any bone. Finish with another all over rub  If you learn and practice how to give a foot massage using this technique you will be a real hit with whoever has the pleasure of receiving your foot massage skills. Remember the more you practice, the better you'll get, and the happier the receiver will be!
